Artania

The known world of Artania is comprised of the continents of Vaeria, Rhinvar, Sollist, Umbruni, and the island continent of Auzearam.   Vaeria and Sollistare separated by the Braelist Ocean. The Frigid Sea separates Vaeria from Rhinvar. The Gulf of the Claw lies east of Pleistos, off the coast of Rhinvar. The great calm, an expanse of ocean known for the rarity of storms or troubled waters, lies between Sollist and Rhinvar, north of The Corridor, a narrow stretch of sea through which much seat traffic passes under the watchful eyes of the Luissian navy. The Azure Sea separates Auzearum from the southern reaches of Sollist. South of Sollist lies the Gorganian Ocean, a treacherous body of water known as much for its violent storms as for the enormous sea creatures that swim in its bottomless depths. The Attolian Ocean separates the concave curve of Sollist's western shores from Umbruni's convex eastern shores. Beyond the reaches of these lands and seas is a body of water known as The Great Open Sea, the full expanse of which has never been completely explored. Sea monsters make their home in the Great Open Sea, and the countless tiny islands and atolls scattered around it. Even airships have been unable to chart the Great Open Sea, for dragons control its skies, and making their lairs on the islands and atolls.   Artania is populated by humans, dwarves, the Cathelloi, the Blessed, the Damned, and various races of monsters who possess varying degrees of sentience. Humans are the most numerous of the civilized races. The Cathelloi are the oldest. Dwarves are the most mysterious. The Blessed are not necessarily all good; the Damned are not necessarily all evil; and both are able to manipulate metaelemental energies--aether and nether. Two types of technology compete for superiority: the mechanical technology of the dwarves, which recently has been adapted and enhanced by the energies of the Damned, and the ancient engineering of the Cathelloi, which has always been used (and heavily regulated) by the Blessed to spread and improve civilization throughout the world.
