The Pit

Horrible prisons abound in the world, although in the vast majority of these the hope of future freedom allows the souls of the prisoners to maintain a certain firmness. They know that at some point they will be able to rejoin the outside world, to continue in the same way or change forever, but to leave after all. This does not happen in The Pit.

The Pit, also called the Pit of Oblivion, is a large hole in the ground 15 meters deep into which human beings condemned to be forgotten by the outside world are thrown. They are given a meager meal and have access to a water hole, all in order that they do not die of starvation. Only the guards and managers, as well as influential personalities, know where it is, but it is known that it is near the southern mountain range. Above the pit itself there is a small building and a platform that can observe every part of the pit and is equally visible from every point. From there, the guards entertain themselves by throwing garbage at the prisoners and, on occasions (usually when a new convict arrives), some public or political personality stands on the rostrum to remind the prisoners that the word freedom no longer exists for them, while just as they no longer exist for the world.
