Warforged

Bar-none the greatest invention of the Dwarves were the creation of the Warforged. The Warforged were built to fight in the war against the Orcish invasion. The first Warforged were mindless automatons, but through arcanic innovation, divine intervention and the devotion of vast resources to improving these steel soldiers, an unexpected breakthrough produced war machines with sentience and intelligence, blending organic and inorganic materials. Warforged are made from wood and metal, but they can feel pain and emotion. Built as weapons, they have strived to find a purpose beyond the old war. A Warforged can be a steadfast ally, a cold-hearted killing machine, or a visionary in search of purpose and meaning. Some Warforged have even mastered the technology to build other Warforged from the Dwarves they live among. Warforged are treated very well among the Dwarves, but a Warforged will likely never rule Dun'Thormiir, alas, they are the inferior race under the mountain.
Since the Catastrophe in Mystarus, the bleed of raw arcane energy has changed the Warforged. They have become more self-aware, more philosophical, more willing, more alive. Warforged feel a soul conjured within them, and since the events of Mystarus, Warforged now begin to venture beyond the regions of Dwarves, seeking out their own ambitions.
