Stadtmari Esquires

An highest elite force of soldiers who are in charge of two things; leading the battalions of the Durendal army and keep peace across the empire. The Esquires of the empire are sent out to patrol the roads, to visit the towns and cities of the nation, to collect taxes and see that everything is running smoothly... at least, that's what people know what the Esquires do... In secret the Esquires also look out for corruption. Esquires are expected to be equally comfortable at home in the city as the wild. They are seen with awe and fear and are a source of much gossip. The Court of Swords seems to appoint Esquires of noble birth, but not always; prospective Esquires can be plucked out of their everyday jobs whether they want to or not.
Esquires are usually of noble pedigree akin to a knight, but are notably different by their lack of plate armor, colorful garments, feathery berets, and large two handed greatswords. The Stadtmari Esquires originated in New Helmstadt but overtime migrated to they station they hold now, in the capital of Durengaard.
In the north, the original Stadtmari are called Stadtmar Braves.
