Urban legend states that 189 subway tunnel workers were trapped in the tunnels, after a huge collapse resulting from a fierce union conflict in 1950. Realizing that they would never be saved in time, they started following the tunnels in the other direction instead. Fighting within themselves they went in different directions, opened doors, broke seals, and discovered to their amazement that they were not the first ones building massive tunnel systems under the city. Some people claim to have found traces of these workers, and some even say that their ancestors still live somewhere deep under ground.   An important focus of the exploration and story progression will be to follow and discover the fates of "the 189" and where their travels further and further into the underground lead them. Since what the explorers are doing is both dangerous and illegal, they need to stay secretive and discreet not to draw attention to themselves or their "colleagues". This leaves them with little social support outside of their own community of paranoid, obsessive or thrill-seeking oddballs. The community of explorers quickly becomes a family of sorts, and we all know that family is important! Close friendships are made between the explorers, and the community will become crucial as they make mind bending discoveries and get increasingly isolated from the rest of society.   All explorers are -- to some extent -- dependent on the community for support, and there is often at least some fondness hidden behind even the more mean comments in the channel.
