Pietro NollToro

Seat of the Military (a.k.a. The Dagger of the West)

  • Pietro is the Current Seat of War on the Midnus Council.
  • He was a soldier for his whole Adult life and has been the General of the army for years.
  • He's a legend in combat on par with Vista Murrow, though he may not be a Mage. The two have had tons of fights over the years, even joining the army around the same time. They have an odd bond that's part friendship, rival, and hatred. Often times they argue on how to use the army, with Vista going against Pierto's orders at times.
  • Pietro has not been in active combat in many years because he's on the Council, giving Vista direct command of the army. So Pietro and the Council come to a decision, he tells Vista, and Vista is supposed to carry out their will.
  • After seeing how Vista took Sophie under his wing, Pietro wanted a similar apprentice, even though he may not admit it to himself. Pietro met Sophie's brother, Simon, after he joined the army hoping to be like his sister.
  • Unlike Sophie, who was a natural soldier, Simon had no idea what he was doing. He was a baby who cried and couldn't fight worth a damn. Yet, something about this kids drive drove Pietro to train him.
  • It started strictly as training, with Pietro often being emotionally distant. But, through time, the two of them developed a deep bond. This may have led to Simon not having to participate in the Katerinian War (if he was enlisted at the time).
  • He's a straightforward and honest man, though he doesn't appear that way. He's clever about what he lets his enemies see, often out maneuvering political rivals.
  • He cares deeply for Midnus, and did believe in the war with Katerina for most of his life. Then, after finding out about the Burning Beach and the start of the Fox rebellion, he changed his vote and decided to oppose the invasion. He was sick about how his soldiers were treated, but his age has given him some perspective on the matter. Sophie talks about how Simon could've been burned too, erasing all of the time the two of them had spent together. This is enough to sway him.
  • Simon doesn't like how he pulled out of the war, and this may possibly put a rift between the two of them. Pietro hates it, but accepts the consequences of his actions.
  • (Alternatively) Simon may be the one appalled by the Burning Beach, and Pietro didn't change his vote, or Simon convinces him to change his vote and they don't have a rift.
  • After the war, Pietro became unpopular, but never lost his Seat on the Council. People tried to replace him with Vista, but with Mages supporting him he managed to stay in power.
  • After the Fox Rebellion, Pietro gained a lot of respect for Melody and her ideals, but after she became a Rogue Mage and started going by the Wolf Queen, he was forced to lie and tell the public he was against her, just like Minnie.
  • Several years later Melody ended up coming back and ended up in prison with her friends. Pietro tried to help them, but Zairadin Fall had beaten him to the punch. Zairadin sent them into the Spider Catacombs, but Pietro had no idea they were in such a dangerous place.
  • Pietro may have sent Simon to help Sophie escape from prison, which may be why he did it when he may not have wanted to.
  • Pietro may send Simon with the Council on their diplomatic mission on his behalf, where he and Sophie eventually work out some of their issues.
  • After Zairadin is discovered to be the traitor, Pietro calls off the army and de-escalates things (or tries to, depending on if they fight), and votes to sentence Zairadin to the Chasm (or death).
  • When the assassins are dealt with, Midnus and Flowers end up with a deeper bond, and Pietro starts to prepare for their chance to attack Finch, building and training his men even more fiercely now (Flowers may have given them some financial support).
