Giwern Desert

The Giwern Desert is the largest desert on Aria. It runs east from the Hioas ocean to the center of the Vaphar continent. The desert is approximately 2,500 miles from the western edge to eastern edge and 1,000 miles from north to south. It is about 2.5 million square miles of sand.   The desert was created as a result to the gods banishment. According to legend, at the very center of the desert are the ruins of the Lost City. The city is known as the place that the the superior banishment ritual was cast with the combined powers of the greatest wizards of the time.

Geography

The desert is primarily empty but there are a few oases every couple hundred miles. There are also several scattered ruins of the civilization that lived there before it became a desert. The dunes of the desert vary in size and height, some of the dunes are taller than mountains, yet others still are no taller than one's knee.

Fauna & Flora

The desert is populated by snakes and scorpions, as well as Yuan-ti. All natural inhabitants bury themselves in the sand during the day and travel by night. Anyone who does not protect themselves during the day will burn.   The only plant life that survives in this harsh environment is hardy weeds and grasses that, while edible, are hardly any use to anyone.

Natural Resources

The sand from the Giwern Desert is known as the best for making resilient glass. There are legends that there were magical crystals near the center of the land, before it was desert. The Lost City is believed to have been the only location on Aria, other than the Kirov Island, with a supply of Magical Crystals. This is what allowed for the banishment spell to be cast and helped cause the resulting desert.
