This month started with far too many calamaties to be coincidental, and ended with a freak snowstorm, and Argyle nearly being burned down. Everyone blamed the mages.
This month started with far too many calamaties to be coincidental, and ended with a freak snowstorm, and Argyle nearly being burned down. Everyone blamed the mages.
Instead of facing up to what they did (and didn't) do, the magic users of Argyle flee from the town and begin to live in the cave systems.
The forests surrounding Argyle are wreaked with storms, but once they subside the flora grows rapidly and bountifully. Air conditions improve. Fire catches faster due to higher levels of oxygen. The surrounding climate becomes warmer and damper. Plants, insects and arachnids start to grow to astounding sizes within a twenty mile radius of the area.
Reports come from a local woodcutter that a bird of radical size and plumage was seen in the woods.
A man goes missing, and during the night is returned unconscious, but unharmed by a large insectoid creature holding a lamp. The locals that were awake to witness it are not believed by many others, though the footprints left behind match no other earthly creature and the man returned swears on the benevolent creature's existence.
The local newspaper features a headline on the event; "Mysterious Robed Man With Lamp Returns Lost Dog Home; Knocks On Owner's Door Then Disappears Into Forest".
Three young teens renovate a cabin and find a book of illuminary spells beneath the floorboards. Upon reading from it and accidentally making a hat glow like a candle, they take it to the nearest responsible intelligent adult so that they don't end up "starting the plot to some b-list horror film like goddamn idiots by keeping this clearly dangerous thing secret from the people who could probably help".
The owner of the Moth and Candle posts a note up on the door. All are welcome to attend, and the people who do form the first members of this scientific association dedicated to the analysis and understanding of monsters.
At the meeting, R.F. Banks distributes STARLLIGHT, a scientific report on her research and findings on the paranormal, unnatural and monstrous. It is from then on distributed tri-monthly with additional information and artwork from others in the organization, and, occasionally, THAMA members.
Upon realising that people knew about the monsters, the mages of Argyle realise that the locals can probably deal with magic, too, and a page is put in the STARLLIGHT on their behalf detailing the place and time of their first meeting. The organisation grows quickly from that point onwards.
