Sovereign Nation of Yril

Far to the south lies the mystical Sovereign Nation of Yril, a singular city-state home to many wondrous magics and mystical contraptions. Second only to the mysterious Dynean Kingdom in its rampant use of magic, Yril has the highest concentration of magic users, particularly wizards and sorcerers, among the civilizations of Argonen. Arcane study permeates the education of Yrilians, with some of the most powerful and influential wizards and artificers to come out of their Arcane Academies.
Being only a city-state, Yril can’t flex its political power through sheer size, so it ops to increase its influence in the regional community by being a magical powerhouse, both in magical studies and magical item exports. The very best magical weapons and armor come from Yrilian artificers, as do the best magical consumables, such as potions and scrolls. Any nation humoring the idea of invading Yril must come to terms with the fact that they will lose all access to such potent magical items and also understand that they will likely walk many of their soldiers into a volley of fireballs, lightning bolts, ice storms, etc. Once those factors are considered, the thought is typically abandoned. Boycotts and other dangers aside, there is really nothing of benefit geographically that an invading force would find useful in Yril, as the city-state does not control much in the way of land and it is not strategically positioned on the continent, and so Yril is mostly left alone by the other, more militant nations of Argonen.
The political leadership of Yril is comprised of two groups: the Silver Council and the Civil Protectorate. The Silver Council is comprised of 8 archmages representing each school of arcane magic. These archmages are the best in their respective schools and are responsible for coordinating the efforts of their school’s practitioners so that it may better itself. The Civil Protectorate is a senate of representatives for every facet of society, from city planning to agriculture to law enforcement, with their being two representatives for every branch. These representatives are elected from within the organisations they work for, with the public having the option to call for an impeachment if necessary. Due to the suffusion of magic use within Yril, the Silver Council is far more popular, and therefore influential, than the Civil Protectorate and tends to be the face of the nation when it comes to regional talks.
