Universal Basic Coinage
The most common currency in Ardrim is what has been dubbed the Universal Basic Coinage. Accepted essentially everywhere, this simplified currency sets a fixed value for precious metals. It comes in 4 denominations: copper, silver, gold, and platinum, with each being worth 10 times the last. For example, 10 copper coins are worth 1 silver, 10 silver worth 1 gold, and 10 gold worth 1 platinum. Granted, this is a bit of an oversimplification, as a common misconception is that this is a standardized form of metal coinage, but that isn't true. Instead, it is actually a standardized form of metal value by weight. This has simply led to most places using the same weight and size for universal metal coins.
It has no set issuer, since it is instead a universally agreed upon value for each of the metals per gram. The system was devised chiefly by the half-elven woman Seramecca Hesderis and put into effect under the TGEC, or Treaty for Global Economic Cooperation, which has been signed by nearly every Irinal nation, with the few that haven't signed it still recognizing the agreed-upon standardized values of copper, silver, gold, and platinum.
