Blackcross Knights

The Blackcross Knights were the first royal military force commissioned in 890 by King Alve Theamin of the Salvum Kingdom during the Salt War to combat against the Pennarese and Availian invading forces. The name "Blackcross" refers to the royal flag of a white banner with a black cross, symbolizing their allegiance and command being the throne of the Salvum Kingdom.
The Blackcross Knights served as a supporting infantry during their inception, clad in heavy armor and long pikes to counter Pennarese and Availian calvary, but later in the war as local militia numbers dwindled or were absorbed into the Blackcross Knights became the primary infantry of the Kingdom. When serving as the primary infantry force of the Salvumine, they began winning far more battles and their campaign of reconquest nearly forced the Pennarese and Availians to retreat from the island due to their calvary being rendered useless against the heavily armored pikemen though inevitably the war was lost and many knights were executed, imprisoned or went into hiding for fear of persecution.

Currently, the Blackcross Knights operate as a secret order of Theamin loyalists, collaborating with Salaston Theamin to undermine the Galwarn monarchy and influence. They train, recruit and conduct espionage in secret and act as security for notable members of the loyalists such as Salaston.
