Written Backstory

Rotund grew up in a human monastery amongst the orc refuges who took up residence in the mountain. He was torn between monk and barbarian training. Thus it was rage or calm, and he didn't know which. Even though he knew humans, the prejudice was still there as it was humans who drove his people into the mountains in the first place. The fact that human knights would challenge them occasionally didn't help. His respect for humans grew worse as he ate the flesh of said knights. The orc god Gruumsh and the lengthy pantheon is who the orcs worshiped, and it was under his teaching that they ate the flesh of enemies to gain their strength. He felt more strength come from chicken than them causing him to think lowly of them but still friendly and civil.   The Wandering Fist came from his realization that rage and peace can be used together. After traveling with a witty and sarcastic noble, and then somehow plain-hopping to Romanorum and fighting with dragon people he started to flush out his style and develop his teachings.

The Wandering Fist

  Also submitted by Nick:
  • Edict 1: Find that which causes you anger and control it.
  • Edict 2: Find that which gives you peace and love it.
  • Edict 3: Find common ground between the two and embody it.
  • Edict 4: Channel it, train with it in your heart, beat yourself bloody and bruised over it.
Those edicts are what you start with, along with 500 punches, kicks, one handed push-ups and etc. After reaching the next level...it gets darker.
  • Edict 5: Do not give mercy to anyone, friend or foe, when you fight, fight to kill. It is your choice whether grant them the gift of life if they are weaker or the honor of death.
  • Edict 6: Look down and despise those weaker than you, but love and help them as it is the duty of the strong to keep the weak from dying out. does the shepherd not both kill and eat his flock as well as feed and protect them?
  • Edict 7: Do not eat the flesh of your own kind. Human shall not eat human, orc shall not eat orc, dwarf shall not eat dwarf. Eat outside for race, no not sully your pallet.
These edicts come with advanced training, self flogging, sleeping on tacks, pouring boiling water on your skin followed by spending hours in as cold an environment as possible, etc.
  • Edict 8: The Wandering Fist is meant to strike in the most unexpected of places. The Wandering Fist is also meant to be used for the most unusual of reasons. It should never be used for evil. We walk a fine line bewteen rage and hate. Should hate ever win then you will become a monster, and monsters must be destroyed.
The slogan he and his followers give to all is as you may remember. "Pain is wisdom". This slogan is from his observations, a child grows wiser after he has become hurt, like not touching fire when burnt. In his way, the worse you get hurt while training with people trying to control themselves, the more you will work to avoid pain in the future and understand if you can get THAT HURT training, then what about when you actually get in a life or death fight.

Shadows Over Arda

Rotund, a fierce monk from a far off land , and the (formerly) sole practitioner of the Wandering Fist martial art. Often stoic, he remains fiercely determined to achieve his goals and further his arts. After fighting and traveling alongside Drake and Ea, Rotund dedicated his focus to founding a school in the orcish city of Aatrox in Romanorum. After being approached by the Torches to aid their cause in the protection of the world, he began to travel with Silvarin on assignments and networking.

During his time with the Torches, he meets the shaman Gregor. Rotund teaches the Wandering Fist to Gregor, before being called to help Drake once more. After returning North to assist his friend Drake, he found a new sense of determination and focus, becoming stronger and harder than ever.
