Dwarven Defender

Shields of the Golden Mountain

From the gold rich mountains of the Golden Mountain to the snow-capped peaks of Khazad-Mor and Morgrad, the dwarves have proven time and again to be strong and capable defenders of their lands. With strong weapons, will, and even stronger armor, they have withstood battle and siege to claim supremacy over numerous lands of Arda. These fearsome defenders of dwarven lands and halls are known as dwarven defenders.

They are most common in the largely-dwarven nation of the Golden Mountain, but a number of other dwarven defenders are known to accept missions abroad or even take to adventuring. Despite the name, not all dwarven defenders are strictly dwarves - others can learn their skills and prowess, though these cases are rare.

Mountainhome Defender

The dwarven defender gains +2 to CMD as long as they are fighting on a mountain or dwarven hold, and never suffers penalties for fighting in tight spaces.   This replaces the bonus feat gained at 1st level.

Dwarven Bastion

At 2nd level, as long as a dwarven defender wears heavy armor, they gain damage reduction. Subtract 1 from the damage the dwarven defender takes each time he is dealt damage from a weapon or a natural attack. At 6th level, and every four dwarven defender levels thereafter (6th, 10th, 14th, and 18th level), this damage reduction rises by 1 point. Damage reduction can reduce damage to 0 but not below 0.   This ability replaces bravery.

Dwarven Pride

At 5th level, the dwarven defender must select axes or hammers for their first weapon training group.   This ability alters weapon training.

Improved Hardiness

Dwarven defenders gain a +2 circumstance bonus on saving throws against poison, spells, and spell-like abilities.   This replaces the bonus feat gained at 10th level.
