The Blood Fortress of Thuban is a servitor plane of the Shadow. Like many of the nearby planes of the multiverse, this plane is a part of the Dragon's Domain, a set of planes believed to be under the dominion of the Gilded Dragon (A.K.A. the Shadow).
Like the many other nefarious planes of the Dragon's Domain, very little is known about the plane of Thuban and its redoubtable Blood Fortress. What little is known is that Thuban is a wide but largely inhospitable plane filled with great valleys, formidable mountains, and acrid karsts that remain in snow and ice year round. The temperature is far too low on the plane for most creatures to survive unaided and without shelter for any significant period of time. Thus, little life outside of the Fortress can exist on the plane.
While much of the plane is frozen and barren, it is best known for the red and massive citadel built upon amidst a series of treacherous mountains. This citadel is known as the Blood Fortress of Thuban, thus named after its carmine red color that contrasts sharply to the ice and snow of the otherwise bleak land. According to some Shadow worshipers, the Blood Fortress is said to be painted with the frozen blood of heretics condemned by the Shadow, though no sources can confirm such a claim.
The Blood Fortress serves as an impregnable vault for the Shadow, including both magical treasures beyond reckoning as well as any such artifice, secrets, or even prisoners that could expose any of the Shadow's weaknesses. It is guarded by the Shadowspawn, a group of corrupted dragonborn, supposedly by the Shadow's blood itself. They are fiercely loyal, and defend the fortress from anything they perceive as a potential threat. The fortress is also staffed by the fetchlings, numerous being of the prestigious Order of the Gilded Dragon who guard the reliquaries in the fortress.
