Umbral Lord Azithaal
Blight of Kamlir
The dark mage Azithaal was formerly the tyrannical leader of the lost region of Kamlir, known for his enslavement of hordes of hideous beasts and monsters through the use powerful rituals and spells.
After decades of rule over his cult of the enslaved, Azithaal and his closest followers attempted a ritual that he believed would allow him to attain eternal life and unlimited dark power. A spectacular, but simple crown was crafted for this ritual and was to be used as a phylactery. In his arrogance, Azithaal aimed to attain something even greater than lichdom and devised his own method of completing the ritual. However, his plan was flawed and tore between the many realms of existence in its failure, pulling Kamlir, its inhabitants, and Azithaal out of this world and into a realm of pure chaos.
In recent history, a group of adventurers from The Guild of Cardinal Points fought alongside the many Orc warbands of Neyris to gain entrance to Kamlir and defeat Azithaal once and for all. Finding the crown that was intended to become Azithaal's phylactery, the adventurers lured his mindless body into a climactic battle atop his twisted tower, defeating him and keeping his crown for safe keeping and further research.
