Have you ever wondered what a typical fantasy setting would look like if were around long enough to become more futuristic? What kind of every day magitech might people have, or would melee combat ever go out of style if someone figured out batch enchanting weapons? Would swords be a viable tactic in the tight corners of your elemental powered starship? Is misty step a perfectly viable way to board your 25ft mech? If so keep reading, you’ll like where this is going.   Agrona, at its simplest is an attempt to see how magic and technology would mesh together over time and create a believable science-fantasy setting. A green and blue rock covered in Elves; Orcs; and Humans ready to branch out amongst the stars. Humanoid kind has been forced to work together, racial divides being generally meaningless in the face of greater threats of the past and mysteries of the future. Most cultures are a smattering of races with mixed ideologies. Players will take the roles of pilots, mercenaries of various backgrounds on any number of adventures usually beset by unfairly large forces. Thankfully you’ll have access to golem mail to even the odds, huge mechs toting advanced weaponry and fine-tuned to your characters needs to even the odds.   This project was started over the 2019 RPG Writers Workshop as a setting for Dungeons and Dragons 5e, though the ideas have been growing for a while. There’s almost too many sources inspiration to name, but mech games and media like Titanfall, Armored Core, Mechwarrior and more recently Lancer with a healthy dose of anime. On the more fantasy side of things, there’s Eberron, Chris Fox’s The Magictech chronicles, more than 15 years of meeting up with friends and pretending to be a paladin and Jim Butcher’s Dresden files just to name a few. Between Welcome Night Vale and Gundam, there’s a little bit of everything here.   So eyes up Pilot, there’s more to come.
