Architecture of Kraken's Galley Oldtown

Despite their architectural origins of the Arborvale Concord, the buildings of Kraken's Galley Oldtown district have decidedly taken on a life of their own. The old military structures and prisons have been so often torn apart, added to, and reconstructed that they scarcely resemble their original forms. Nothing if not ingenuous, the citizens in this poorer part of the city are capable of using near anything to repair their homes and businesses.

Many a first time visitor has marveled at the haphazard structure of the Oldtown district. Buildings lie precariously stacked atop each other, with no clear sense of order to any except the most native to the city. A myriad of materials make up the exteriors, everything from properly cut stone, (usually lifted from Concordian merchant ships) to hunks of destroyed ships lashed together. It is not uncommon to even see parts of structures suspended from the massive leviathan bones that sprout alongside the city walls. Living space is cramped and uncomfortable for all but the wealthy few of the city. With finite room for expansion and an ever-growing populace, Kraken's Galley has nowhere to move but up.

Given the city's ravenous and unccoordinated expansion, it is unfair to call its avenues of travel "streets" in the proper sense. Walkways comprised of planks, ladders, and whatever else is lying around form the upper layer, and below it is any guess when one will run in to a flooded area, or a simple dead-end. Very few wagons and carriages exist here, usually only utilized for the movement of cargo. Even then, it takes one with a lifetime of experience in the city to know which paths are navigable. The streets of Kraken's Galley are just as liable to endanger those unfamiliar with them as anywhere in the wilds; something that suits the local hordes of thieves and brigands just fine.

Alterations

Kraken's Galley is as close to living as a city can gate. Its architecture constantly shifts both with society and nature itself, as buildings are pulled from, added to, or even built on top of. More than once a section of the city has been crushed or washed away by the sea, or destroyed in attempted invasions. Every time, it responds by simply springing up anew.
