Aquaris

A merciless sun beats down upon the seas of sand. Ruins of long-forgotten civilizations occasionally break the endless horizons. Depending on who you ask, they're either defying time's cruel test until the bitter end or simply cruel reminders of what could have been. Through broken and scattered records, we know that close to a third of the populace was vaporized in a single day and that the rest of the world slowly turned to sand and ash.

But all is not lost. The denizens have slowly rebuilt around openings to the subterranean aqueducts, where oases remain verdant and more forgiving than the wastes. Generations of hard work has led to sizable cities, delicate non-aggression pacts among our great citadels, the reclamation of ancient technology, and there's rumors that some are even taking back the desert.

Speaking of rumors... Come closer... lately there has been something afoul. The Scar has always been treacherous, but in the last decade the few veterans who have made a living scouring the region have been disappearing and some caravans who base their operations in the nearby cities claim to see a strange miasma off in the distance. One can only hope our citadel councils have come up with a plan to stave off whatever threat lurks in that mist.
