Captain Wavecutter

Captain

Captain Wavecutter was among the most notorious pirates in the days before the rise of the Corsair. He made his home base in what is now the Island of the Deserters and operated largely out of the Blood Sea, however, his influence was felt all over the world. His escapades, in the grand scheme of things, were not long ago, and many elderly individuals still remember his time as the king of the seas. Despite having been gone for nearly thirty years, some are still paranoid he will return, greedy and bloodthirsty as ever.

Divine Domains

Wavecutter was deeply devoted to the Spirit of the Sea. He prayed to it for safe travels, fortune, and adventure. Whenever he found himself at the other end of particularly rough patch - perhaps a storm or a fierce battle - he would toss in a few coins or jewels to say thanks for sparing his life. He also sought counsel from the ghost of Davy Jones, asking him for guidance when faced with a difficult decision.

Mental characteristics

Employment

Wavecutter's first job came to him when he was just ten years old. He found his way onto a sailing ship and worked odd jobs for low pay. To a young child, however, what paltry pay he received was more money than he ever had before. And he wanted more.  Wavecutter spent a good portion of his teen years attempting to make an honest living. However, it wasn't enough for him. He could never have enough gold. So, one day, he pinched some from a crew mate. Then some from another. And another. He brought the practice back home. It was a much faster way to make money than honest work, and he also became addicted to the thrill of thieving. Wavecutter's first experience with pirates came when he was 17. A pirate crew attacked the ship where he worked, and he, along with a few others, were taken prisoner. He was fascinated by their way of life. In spite of their savagery, he idolized them. He was constantly getting in trouble and received beatings, mostly for trying to take treasure for himself, but the captain must have admired his gumption, so he was kept around much longer than the others. He even began to win the favor of his crew mates. Then, a thought came to mind. He convinced the crew that the captain was holding out on them as well, and, one night, sparked a mutiny. His suspicion was right. Having won the good favor of the crew, he was promoted to captain. He treated his men better than the former captain. He still took larger cuts of the treasure, but gave them enough money to keep them satisfied. He continued the former captain's traditions of ransacking other ships, but became more aggressive. Very few ships were spared. Some of his crew chose to leave, which he allowed, and brought aboard fresh meat to take their place. Eventually, only the most calloused individuals remained, and a notorious crew was born.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Wavecutter was driven by greed and the thrill of bringing in a good haul. He had no spouse or children to care for, and didn't seem bothered to form any meaningful bonds with anyone around him. Truly, his motivation was to have more gold and riches than anyone else.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

Wavecutter was said to be a bit of a master manipulator. He was quick to find what made people tick, what he deemed to be their weaknesses, and even quicker to exploit that weakness. He often relied on his silver tongue to get what he wanted, but had no qualms about having to rely on his blade instead.  He was, however, inept at forming real bonds with people. He knew how to exploit and manipulate, but he didn't understand them. He used them for his own devices, but discarded them if they ever became too unruly for him to use. He was both brilliant and stupid when it came to other people.

Likes & Dislikes

Wavecutter's most famous love was treasure. Anything that glittered, he desired. He appreciated loyalty, and found it to be, by far, the most useful trait a sailor could possess.
