Appastarea

Appastarea is a continent in the Atlantic ocean, just a bit larger than Australia. The continent is unknown to those outside it, having been sealed inside a finite-realm since Earth's creation, even though it makes a tragic sacrifice for the sake of all mankind.   Inside, it is the only place where magic is able to survive, with the rest of the planet starved of the rift energy needed to sustain the supernatural resource. The people are highly civilized, living in a constitutional monarchy on the cutting edge of magic and society, but not so much technology. With priorities turned elsewhere, the science and infrastructure of Appastarea closely resembles that of 18th century Europe.   Those other priorities are the struggle to survive in the face of existential war. The fragments of Entropy and Existence, Heaven and Hell, are locked in eternal conflict, as they tend to be. The souls of mankind are necessary to fuel it. In the face of this powerful opposition, the people of Appastarea have taken measures throughout their long history to survive, and stay orderly.
