The Demon Lord

The Demon Lord was a powerful dark god worshiped by a society of demons, demon-human hybrids, and humans. He was known for being incredibly loyal to his followers, but was also known for his brutality towards those who attacked his homeland or his people.   The Demon Lord's worshipers were a society of dark beings who lived in a remote and inhospitable region of the world. They were feared and hated by other nations, particularly the Holy Kingdom, which saw them as a threat to their own people and their way of life.   The Demon Lord was said to possess incredible powers and abilities. He was able to grant his followers strength, speed, and endurance beyond that of reasonable limitations. He was also able to grant them the ability to use dark magic, which allowed them to summon powerful demons, cast deadly spells, and even control the minds of others.   Despite his loyalty to his followers, the Demon Lord was known for his aggressive and violent behavior towards outsiders. He was said to attack anyone from the Holy Kingdom on sight and steal their souls to fuel his power. This behavior only further reinforced his reputation as a ruthless and evil deity, and contributed to the intense hatred and fear that many people in the Holy Kingdom had for him and his followers.   Despite his fearsome reputation, the Demon Lord was ultimately defeated by the combined forces of the Holy Kingdom and its allies. His mortal conduit, the Demon Champion, was slain by a Hero Paladin, who was then crowned the first Pope-King of the Holy Kingdom. With the Demon Champion's death, the Demon Lord lost his hold on the physical world and faded into nothingness. After the war, the demon race and its hybrids were swiftly eradicated, leaving only humans as the rulers of the known world.   Today, the Demon Lord is largely forgotten, except in the myths and legends of the Holy Kingdom. He is remembered as a monstrous and evil deity, and his defeat is seen as a victory for the forces of good and righteousness. Though, this teaching is only taught to the current Pope-King and senior-most Archbishop of the Church of the Holy Light. Any awareness of the Demon Lord by the general population is thought of as heretical thinking and deeply punished, as a form of prevention of the Demon Lord's return.   To this day, only the Pope-King and the Grand Archbishop understand that in order to maintain peace, there must never be a conflicting religion against the Radiant King. Even other benevolent light gods, who were unable of truly existing, took power and worship away from the Radiant King. The Pope-King and the Grand Archbishop know that if anyone were to start believing in a dark god, or even introduced to the concept of one, the Demon Lord could return into the world and regain his strength.   For generations, the Pope-Kings and the Grand Archbishops used their powers and influence to suppress any knowledge or worship of the Demon Lord, and worked to ensure that The Holy Light remained the dominant and only faith in the Holy Kingdom. This method of control was effective for many years, but it ultimately proved to be inadequate in the face of the rise of the Dark Goddess.   The Dark Goddess, while not directly related to the Demon Lord, was born of the same primordial dark energy, and shared a similar hatred of the Radiant King. She sought to challenge the Radiant King's rule and restore the worship of a dark god, and she used her followers, known as the Cult of the Dark Goddess, to spread her influence and destabilize the Holy Kingdom.
