Lilian Lysander was born and raised in a small village east of the Holy Capitol. The youngest of three siblings, her home was a loving one, and her childhood was happy and carefree. Her father, a blacksmith, and her mother, a homemaker, cared dearly for their three children.
However, as a teenager, her life was turned upside down when the Holy Church came to her village. Looking to draft strong and able-bodied men to fight in the latest crusade against the neighboring nation to the east, her older brother and father were both conscripted, with the promise of a large pouch of gold as compensation for their service. The lure of the gold and the opportunity of a better life was too great for her family to turn down, and their happy family was torn apart.
Tragically, her brother and father were killed in battle due to the poor judgement of the inexperienced general leading the crusade. Devastated by their deaths, Lilian, her mother, and her elder sister, held tightly to what was left of their family and hoped to heal from the pain. Lilian however, could never seem to quite let go of her unease and distrust in the Holy Church, and she longed to seek retribution for her family's loss.
After the loss of her father and brother, Lilian took up work as a bartender and server at the local tavern in order to help provide for her broken family. She quickly became beloved within her small community, and the tavern became the most popular spot in town. As the village grew and became an important center for trade in the area, Lilian was approached by a handsome man, named Ghost, who worked as an assassin for a secretive criminal organization. Each sensing an opportunity, they came to a fruitful deal. Lilian would work as an information broker for his organization, her sharp ears and position within the community providing her ease of access to every variety of intelligence. In return, Ghost would be able to promise her hefty pay for her services.
The agreement proved to be prolific, and her talent passing as an unassuming and innocent bystander was second to none. Though, throughout all their dealings, Lilian was eventually drawn to Ghost, and fell in love with the secretive assassin. However, to her disappointment, the troubled and hardened Ghost wasn't able reciprocate her feelings. Despite this, she continued to work for him, gathering valuable information as she continued to pine.
One day, Ghost returned to the village with a grand smile on his face. Something about him seemed very different, and he no longer wore the look of a man constantly soaked in bloodshed. Having an even grander opportunity for her, Ghost offered Lilian the retribution she had been seeking for her brother and father. He had escaped his life of constant crime by joining a secretive cult, recieving untold power from a being known as The Dark Goddess, and he needed Lilian's help with a fantastic plan. Terrified of such a prospect, Lilian initially pulled away in fear, knowing just how serious a crime heretical thinking was within the Holy Kingdom. But her feelings for Ghost, and trust in his judgement, proved to be strong enough to soon win her over. Her distrust in the Holy Church finally leading to her deciding to hear Ghost's proposal.
In the Captiol, was Ghost's brand new Tavern and Inn, The Midnight Rose. There, Lilian would be working as an information broker as she always had, this time in the Capitol and for a much more secretive purpose. In return, Lilian would be promised the opportunity to seek revenge on the Holy Church, should such an opportunity come. Furthermore, Ghost promised her a comfortable home in the Capitol for her and her elderly heartbroken mother.
Lilian eagerly accepted the offer and moved to the Capitol, where she quickly gained a similar reputation as a friendly and outgoing bartender with a peculiar knack for making customers feel at home. Within The Midnight Rose, she used her position at the tavern to gather valuable information, and recruit the rare new cultist, and protect the secret of the Apostle's identity. Despite her lack of combat skills, she was a valuable asset with her particularly advanced magical cleaning abilities and her connections in the community.
With the promise of palpable justice, Lilian earnestly put her trust and faith in the Cult of the Dark Goddess, gaining an unshakeable belief in the Dark Faith. In return for her faith, she received the Dark Goddess' blessing, and gained the ability to lightly influence those around her. And luckily, such gifts come in handy when one serves at one of the most popular taverns in the Capitol, and one is bound to come by privileged and useful information.
And Lilian's ears, heard all.

Mental Trauma

Lilian's mental trauma is centered around the deaths of her brother and father at the negligent hands of the Holy Church. As she was only a teenager at the time, the loss of two immediate family members left a scar on her psyche. She holds a deep mistrust in Holy Church and a desires retribution for the pointless deaths of her loved ones. Lilian joined the Cult of the Dark Goddess as a means to achieve her goal of payback, and felt her efforts working against the Holy Church were worthwhile. While she is prone to momentary and rare fits of anger and vengeful thoughts when alone, she does not struggle to control her emotions and always maintains a friendly and outgoing facade when interacting with others, especially with patrons. She is also deeply in love with Ghost, a man who has changed her life on multiple occasions. Though, Ghost is emotionally unable to reciprocate her feelings, which causes her additional pain and insecurity. Yet she remains resolved to stand by his side and keep him in her life.
