This is a world of two extremes, control and chaos. Yet the two nations which symbolize this great clash are not as different as they at first appear, or would like to believe. And it is the common link between them that gives rise to the problems in each.   The first nation of Nihata is a totalitarian dystopia, founded on the belief that individuals should not be allowed to determine their own purpose in life. If this was allowed, society could not logically exist as the very notion of a law would be an infringement on the self-made purpose of an individual. To avoid this, it was decided that the government must establish a universal purpose for its citizenry, by which every person could be judged or praised and order could be kept. Civil order then became that purpose. Order meaning more than just the absence of chaos but the proper use of everything and everyone. Thus, the government controls every aspect of a person's life including the jobs, hobbies, relationships, etc. To deviate is treason.   The second nation, Derland, is what its people would describe as a bastion of freedom. Rather than fearing the idea of individualized purpose, Derland embraced it and the anarchy it logically brought about. The only law of the land is the will of eleven warlords that look out for their own interests. The people are free to follow their hearts on any escapade as long as they have the means to do so, whether that is becoming a beloved actoress, a successful businessman, a protective vigilante, or a feared mob boss. However, rarely are people actually satisfied when their dreams are achieved. Derland suffers greatly from alcoholism, workoholism, pornography, drug abuse, and suicide. Yet Derland stands, resisting the encroachment of Nihata and clinging to their freedom.
