The Atoners
One of the 5 main factions of the governing bodies of Ixbaezia, the Atoners are a group of unique individuals who have accepted their exile. They realize the wrong they've committed and want to give back to the world in order to make amends. The Atoners also make up a large amount of the general populace who don't have any special skills that would benefit the other factions. They fill the general workforce in Ixbaezia as gatherers, farmers, herbalist, cleaners, chefs, teachers, etc. They are supported by the other factions since they provide a pivotal role in keeping the city running.
Structure
The Atoners elect a speaker once a year to be their representative among the factions. The speaker is granted permission to interpret the peoples needs and present them accordingly.
Under the speaker, there are several elders throughout the faction who help the younger population figure out their place in the city. They act as mentors and guides. They provide training for those who wish to take on a profession similar to their own.
Religion
Like most of Ixbaezia, they follow Safokang and perform her rite regularly to grant them protection and warmth in the cold desolation. However, they don't treat their prayer like religion, it is closer to a tradition passed down since the founding of the city. They pray to her name, but there are no statues or temple dedicated to their goddess. The people of Ixbaezia have never known anything more about their goddess, she was a name lost to the ages and a face even further gone.
