Torsional Cummins - the mechanic

Torsional Elizabeth (her mother's name) Cummins (a.k.a. Torsi, Big Block)

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Torsi is six feet tall, with wide shoulders and curves that slightly obscure bulging muscles.

Facial Features

She has a round, friendly face with eyes which are often raccooned with the greasy outline of goggles. When she smiles, her eyes squint almost closed.

Identifying Characteristics

She's covered in various little scars from her work.   She also has a few tattoos. She has a large memorial portrait of her father on her chest. He sports a thick beard and scowling. Torsi says he rarely scowled like that, but she chose that expression to serve as a warning to anyone seeing it that they should treat her right. The tattoo is flanked by flying ribbons with text containing some of his favorite sayings in latin such as one which translates to "If a friend asks for help, you help 'em." Seeing his face in the mirror always cheers her up and makes her feel like he's with her still.   She also has memorial tattoos of each of her personal vehicles. The latest was Wilbur, an insanely fast rock crawler.

Apparel & Accessories

Torsi favors a style which is 80% hotrodder and 20% girly. She has no time for anything that can't take a little grease and sparks though. She always wears steel-toed boots (usually with the steel caps exposed). She always has at least a few tools on her person.

Specialized Equipment

Torsi has an extensive collection of tools. They are all old, battered, and often slightly modified to make them function better. She habitually buys tools which look worn out to the casual eye, but are actually in excellent condition.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Torsi's mother died during childbirth and, with no other caretaker, her father kept her nearby as he worked on customer's vehicles. As soon as she could walk, she was holding lights and fetching tools. Rather than resenting this, she naturally shared her father's love of everything greasy and mechanical. She grew up big, strong, and cheerful, also like her father.   Her father died two years ago from a sudden heart attack. It was a devastating loss, and she misses him tremendously, but her naturally cheerful nature allowed her to bounce back quickly.   She just recently lost her shop in a fire, along with the latest iteration of her pride and joy - Wilbur. It was a rip-snorting, super-charged rock crawler. This is what motivates her to start a new project (the apocalypse truck). Fortunately she didn't lose all of her tools as she had been away on a job with a basic travel set when the fire happened.

Intellectual Characteristics

Torsi is a mechanical genius. She can fix nearly any mechanical device or simple electrical systems. She's worked on gas turbines, hydraulics, pumps, generators, solar panels, airplanes, and battle tanks.   She also knows a surprising amount of latin, and is pretty well versed in the history of the roman empire as these were both interests of her father.

Morality & Philosophy

Torsi has an uncomplicated, rural morality. If a friend asks for help, you help 'em.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

She's not a big picture thinker. When she sees something broken, she fixes it. When she sees something that could be improved, she improves it. If nothing is interfering with her ability to do this, she's generally pretty happy.

Likes & Dislikes

She is obsessed with powerful machines. She is happiest when she can feel the percussive exhaust of a super charged monster pounding her chest.   She loves fruity girly drinks with little umbrellas and frilly things on top. She's a fairly big eater in general, favoring pancakes with nuts on top, and midwest and texmex dishes.   She likes old country western music, which she usually has quietly playing in the background. She likes small, old radios more than big booming stereo systems. Music is for filling the quiet moments between engine roars.

Virtues & Personality perks

She is an expert driver. The team will receive a driving bonus when she is on the team.   She is the ideal wasteland mechanic when it comes to fixing things villagers care about.   Everyone likes her and she has a wonderful, warm personality. She's very low drama.   is willing to pay 25% of her take in order to be part of the crew, but she will charge for her labor on upgrades.

Vices & Personality flaws

She does not understand electrical systems well enough to get the electric truck working. She will install an internal combustion engine, and it will need a constant supply of fuel. It will also be loud.

Personality Quirks

She is often uncomfortable and bored when not working on mechanical devices. For example, she would hate relaxing next to a pool.   Her father drilled into her the importance of safety equipment. She always wears googles and hearing protection when necessary.   Delicate things are often accidentally broken when she's around. Don't bring out your fine china if you invite her to high tea in your parlor. She also snores.

Hygiene

She washes often, but is still usually striped with grease and grime. Her fingernails have probably never been clean since she was a baby. She smells faintly like a machine shop - machine oil and welding smoke.

Social

Contacts & Relations

She has a truly intimidating reputation amongst gearheads. Her vehicles routinely crush and humiliate the competition.
