Antebellum

Myths and legends speak of long ago, when angels and demons waged war eternally. To the humans, the angels were divine protectors, beating back the threat of demonic invasion. As the story goes, the arrival of the Dwarves disrupted the link between human and angel, leaving us stranded. In the crumbling Lucian Empire, these stories have been left behind, and only faith in fellow men remains, but to the south, the chaotic Heartlands have had more reports of demons, and heroes blessed with divine power. As religious fervor is reignited in the hearts of the common man, many seek to lead, gain power and plunder. The dwarves and their ancient enemy they brought with them when they traveled to this land have both fled the human lands, each being blamed for some catastrophe or another. Some say they still remain among the humans, dwarves lurking in the hills of the Heartland, and elves deep in the heart of the swamp that is slowly consuming the continent of Erys.
