Personal history

He grew up with a normal life as the oldest of five siblings, both parents still alive. His father was a blacksmith and his mother was a seamstress for the gentry. He grew up and started working as a squire for the local nobles, and from there, advanced into the ranks as a vassal for them. He joined the priesthood, thinking that he was called to a religious life, but after five years of service, realized that it was not his true calling. He remains a dedicated servant of the faith and is entirely devoted to his deities. He has no partner, though he has been interested in several people over his years. He has two young nieces that are the most precious things in the world to him. He enjoys the outdoors, makes friends easily, and enjoys whittling small wooden flutes and pipes to sell or give out to children.
Athamel wants power. He wants position and riches and he will destroy anything he perceives as a threat. Now, this does not mean he is mindlessly ambitious, it simply means that if he thinks something or someone is stopping him, he will do his best to remove the obstacle. Mel is calculating, cold, and always future-minded. He is not, however, emotionless. He does make connections and relationships in spite of his thirst for domination and power. He believes himself to be doing what he is meant to do, powered by the blessing and abilities bestowed on him by his gods.
Any relationships he may form are purely for selfish reasons. He is not unaffectionate, but his attachments to people/creatures are selfish at their core and are often used for what they can afford him. He is not without emotion or connection, but he craves a power exchange and is only satisfied with mindless loyalty.
