Court of the Mountain
The Court of Conviction
Our blue sierras shone serene, sublime,
When ghostly shapes came crowding up the air,
Shadowing the landscape with some vast despair;
And all was changed as in weird pantomime,
Transfigured into vague, fantastic form
By that tremendous carnival of storm.
Katharine Lee Bates
Courtiers
Mountain courtiers are stalwart individuals that tend to be strong-willed, with little time for doubt. (Their critics and detractors might say they also have little time for self-reflection.) They stand firm in the face of adversity, either coolly confident or even as self righteous zealots. The only thing you can rely upon in this world or any other is yourself, and other immutable functions of the universe.

Heraldry - Court of Mountain AestheticWhen ghostly shapes came crowding up the air,
Shadowing the landscape with some vast despair;
And all was changed as in weird pantomime,
Transfigured into vague, fantastic form
By that tremendous carnival of storm.
Katharine Lee Bates
Mountain courtiers often wear black, shades of gray and slate. The goat, the lynx and the vulture are the animal symbols of the court, and they may carry tools like pickaxes, climbing hammers or signaling mirrors. Mantle One to three dots of Mantle gives Mountain courtiers a sense of loftiness and height--even those with twisted backs stand straighter and taller, with a sense of rootedness that they will not be moved. They may have a twinkle of snow on the breeze that follows them, or crushed gravel left where their footsteps have gone. Higher dots may cause a profound effect upon the changeling's voice, making it echo and ring with the strength of stone. One dot in Mantle of the Mountain gives the changeling insight on standing firm and resolute, and so they gain an extra die on all rolls involving Resolve; three dots expands this intuitive understanding into something more active and feral, and the changeling gains 9 again on rolls involving Survival or Intimidation.
