The Making (Merr)

In this three-day ceremony, every adult merr goes to the predetermined making place and joins in an energetic, X-rated gathering in which they release their eggs or sperm. After the festivities, the exhausted merr return home without paying any attention whatsoever to the new lives they have created.   There is also no record of how many eggs are successfully fertilized each year, as the only children considered viable are those that find their way home. This is usually a group of two dozen or so individuals that begin arriving in mid-summer. Because the fertilization happens externally and in such a small area, there is no way of knowing who the parents of any given merr child are. The children are treated as though they belong to the community, but they are expected to be as independent as possible from the moment they arrive home.

History

The Making has long been the tradition of the Merr. It always takes place around the spring equinox, but the place changes from year to year.

Execution

Three days. Release all the eggs or sperm you can muster. Go!   The only real rule of the Making is to enjoy yourself without hurting anyone else. Hurting another, especially during this time, is considered to be hurting the entire community.

Components and tools

The merr prepare only the most sensuous aphrodisiacs to eat, and they are expected to wear the most graceful and sinuous clothing they have.

Participants

Every adult merr is expected to participate. There are no real roles, and the pre-existing relationships between any given individuals are to be ignored at this time. Everyone is considered an equal member of the community and their participation is considered equally valuable.

Observance

The middle day of this three-day ritual is the spring equinox. The place changes from year to year and is decided by the Elders beforehand.
