Demins (Filii Paden)
The dragon god Paden created demins.
Demins live in small groups, and they stay on the move. These lithovores almost look as though they are comprised of rock themselves. They generally avoid going into other species' settlements, but they are friendly enough when encountered. Demins have their own magic which changes the probability of a chosen outcome. To run across one is considered lucky.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Demins are three to four feet tall. Compared to humans, they have a proportionally larger head with smaller eyes and ears. Their arms are longer than human arms, allowing them to use either a two- or a four-legged gait. Demin skin is hard plated in shades of black, gray, and brown, and they have no hair.
Genetics and Reproduction
Gestation: 14 months
Demins give birth to a single child at a time.
Growth Rate & Stages
Demins have a life expectancy of 40 years, matched only by true humans (but exceeded by sprites).
Although demins are born with teeth and learn to walk within a few weeks, they do not reach adulthood until age 12. Younger demins have a softer plated skin with fewer cracks.
Ecology and Habitats
They live anywhere that rocks are easily available. The climate does not effect them much.
Dietary Needs and Habits
They are lithovores. The demins do not eat much compared to other species; this is vital, since their food source is so slow to grow.
Biological Cycle
Demin skin gets harder and gains more cracks as they age. A very old demin may look as though they are made up of gravel.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Demin magic is that of increasing probability. They can neither create a probability from nothing (0%) nor raise it to inevitability (100%), but they can make any given outcome more likely to turn out in their favor. The older the demin, the stronger the magic.
Using their abilities causes a demin to dry out and their armored skin to crack, essentially speeding up the aging process. For this reason, they do not use their abilities frivolously. While the occasional use is common, a chronic magic user will be easy to spot.
Conservation Status
Demins keep a small population on purpose due to limited food resources.
