Doru - Dory(plural). 6-8 foot spear with a curved leaf like spearhead and spike on end. The primary weapon of the phalanx armies of the Greeks.
Sarissa - Longspear. 13-20 foot longspear otherwise built like a doru. Generally used by Macedonians.
Battleaxe - A single headed axe typically used by heavy infantry to penetrate armor and shields.
Labrys - Greek double headed axe meant for two hands. The favored weapon of the Cretans.
Lancea (Javelin) – Originally hailing from the Egyptians, this smaller spear meant for throwing is considered by the Athenians as the best way to defeat a Hoplite, since you can strike and run away before they reach you.
Xiphos - Traditional sword used by the hoplights. 25 inches long, used for stabbing or slashing.
Lakonia - Shorter version of the xiphos frequently used by Spartans, averages 18 inches. Has negative connotations for non-Spartans as a symbol of the warlike people.
Kopis - Curved sword used for hacking, also known as a falcatta. Curves outward toward the point.
Makhaira - Larger version of the xiphos for use by cavalry. Only sharpened on one side for slashing.
Gastraphetes - Ancient crossbow, also called a belly-bow. The shooter must stand and reload with his foot, and then lay back down to fire, as it is too heavy to be fired while standing.
Dagger - Frequently carried by Greeks as a backup weapon or a cutting knife for food.
Sling - The primary ranged weapon of the Greeks. A leather strap with a pouch to hold a small stone, the strap is spun rapidly before releasing the stone at high speeds.
Shortbow - Rare in Greece, these early bows are generally used by Cretans or non-Greeks.
Sica - Curved long knife used for slashing. Favored weapon of the Illyrian people.
