Dobi Annarhiyya

There will be no peace, no bread and mercy for any Belgorodian in near future. Moryana save Belgorod for no one else can! - Unkown
Dobi Annarhiyya (Age of Anarchy) refers to an ongoing civil war in former Belgorodian Tsardom between various principalities and city- state republics. After Tsar Pyotr IV died without leaving an heir to the throne, a Regency Council was formed to elect a new Tsar. However, discussion lasted for years without any results, mainly because none of the noble families wanted to upset balance of power in Tsardom. Duke Vasily Botuskhin decided to end the stalemate and proclaim himself a new Tsar. To accomplish this, he called all influential nobles of Belgorod to his estate in Pokryushna to discuss about ongoing crisis. However, this meeting was a trap. On October 7th 1078. 37 nobles were killed on his estate and many more captured. This event became known as a Bloody Council. Vasily immediately rushed with his troops to the capital, but was intercepted by a coalition army led by the nobility who escaped from Bloody Council and lesser nobility who became influential after so many high ranking nobles perished overnight. At the fields of Magadyn Duke Vasily was defeated and killed in the battle. However coalition quickly dissolved because nobles realised they have their chance of taking imperial throne for themselves. Without Bloody Council, they would have remained irrelevant in politics and intrigues of Belgorod. In just one week, Tsardom was fractioned into principalities led by princes who saw chance to grab power for themselves and city state republics who were tired of nobility's harsh rule. Dukes lost their powers completely and were reduced to just ceremonial position because they became too reliant on their smaller nobility (mainly princes) and were eventually exiled or executed. Now Belgorod is locked in constant strife, and many neighbours of Belgorod see this as an opportunity for expansion, mainly Mithraic Kingdom in south and Skitai tribes in the east.
