Umoya

Just as the three kits stepped away from the edge there mother and father flew into the cave entrance. They held a hawk between them, and set it down at the entrance. The three kits approached, Gabal and Ukhozi excitedly ran up to them and licked there faces. Shasta approached slowly and looked at her paws.
"Look up sweety, looking down shows weakness." Her father told her in a gentle tone, and she perked her head up and gave him a slight smile. There mother went to all of them and was licking their faces. She often did that, but not this much. "Mom stop!" she whined.
"Sweetie, I need you to be perfect for tonight," her mother told her happily.
"Why?" she asked nervously.
"Your ceremony is tonight!" they told them in union. And, all three kits stared at them blankly for a moment before two out of three of the kits got excited. She was not as happy as them. Every ceremony there was a flying test. Kits were supposed to cave jump in front of everyone after the choosing, and she couldn't fly!
"Come on, we are going now. climb onto our backs." there father told them and crouched down. all three kits climbed on, and there mother grabbed the hawk. they flew down to the cave and landed. This was the first time they had been here and Shasta stared in awe at the huge cave. There were apprentices leaping and flying around, and older cats waiting to eat.
"I'm excited to be able to eat here again." There mother told there father as they entered the cave entirely. Their mother didn't leave them at all in the first months, and every night she still stayed and ate at there family cave.
All three kits jumped off there fathers back, and looked around. All eyes seemed to be on them now. It felt like everyone was starting to make bets now, about who would be chosen. she heard a few elders whisper about her sister. But right now both her siblings felt like good choices to make, she was the odd one out.
"Tonight I'm going to hold the most important ceremony a Umholi can hold. My kits have come of age and I am going to pick the next to replace me when the time comes." He said and smiled down at them. he moved them to the far end of the cave, where there was some step like things to a higher edge of rock. And then they were above everyone else.
"Woah." she gasped quietly and looked around.
"First will be the cave jumping test. You have to fly up to that ledge and make your way down. First one down will be influential on my decision." Jandreau announced and looked at his three kids proudly. No pressure at all, thanks dad.
She lined up with her siblings, and watched as they both took off, and slowly flew up, both wobbling in the air. She slowly opened up her wings and felt the weight of them, her back was burning after a few seconds. But she pushed herself to try and give out one flap. As she did so a piercing pain shot up one wing. And she folded them back in, and turned to look sadly at her father. He looked disappointed. She had heard him say before, a cat who cant fly is useless. 'He thinks I'm useless.'

Structure

1. Umholi: Leader of the Tribe. They run the tribe, keep in organized, functioning and make announcments at gatherings.
2. Umholi's Mate: They help the Umholi lead and should support them through and through.
3. Umholi's Apprentice: The kit of the Umholi that has been chosen to lead the tribe next.
4. Ibeta: They are second in command in the Tribe. They become Umholi only if the original Umholi dies without their being an heir, or if the heir is to young to lead.
5. Healer: They heal the tribes wounded and sick and share with the gods and the dead.
6. Delta: They hunt, battle and care for the tribe, and train the apprentices.
7. Mamshkis: They have kits and stay in the nursery until the kits are 6 moons.
8. Omega: They hunt, battle and care for the tribe, but do not train apprentices.
9. Apprentices: They train in hunting, fighting, navigation, cleaning bedding and caring for their tribemates.
10. Elders: They live happily in the tribe until they die. They are treated with respect and love, but are not higher in the rankings because they do not provide for the Tribe.

Public Agenda

They strive to be the fastest, most agile and most clever tribe on the island. They try to keep peace, and believe in equality among cats.

History

Umoya split off from the main group of cats in the first year of them arriving on the island. With their thick, warm coats and feathery wings they were best suited for living in the high altitudes of the mountains. They sided with Shisa in the Five Year War, but eventually split off from them and helped the other tribes put a cease to the Shisa tribe. They were the first tribe to openly accept the Omega cats and bring them to gatherings. Their leader, Asreal The Egalitarian, them after the battle and the Ibeta at the time, Rakke, took her spot in leadership and lead the clan for a long time. He was a fair leader and kept up the previous leaders changes. Now, the tribe faces an ongoing war with Izitshalo, and the threat of the returning Shisa tribe. The tribe is under the leadership of Jandreau and his daughter Gabal.

Demography and Population

There are approximately 30 cats in Umoya at a time.

Territories

The Tribe of Umoya settled in the uninhabited mountain rages on the Amakiti island. They consist of two camps, one for the winter and one for the summer, a series of many mountains, a large glacier fed lake that is in the valley between the two mountain ranges, and a small shoreline.

Religion

They follow the god of the sky and wind, names Akamzee, along with three other gods called, Madicara, Dalodris and Kenarith.

Education

They train their apprentices in a mentor/apprentice system.

Infrastructure

The mountains protect them from other on-ground enemies like wolves, bigger cats, etc...
