Orcs

Orcs are counterpoints to other races in many ways; where the elves are long lived and few in numbers, orcs are prolific. Where humans often crave the comforts of civilization, orcs are far more likely to test themselves against nature. Where goblins organize and impose order as the conquer, orcs believe intensely in freedom. Where dwarves invent, orcs repurpose. They are on the whole a chaotic neutral race, not evil but often scornful of arbitrary rules that give unearned advantages to soft city dwellers. (They scoff at laws that prevent retribution for attacks on one’s family, for instance.) They are intensely spiritual and connected to the natural world as closely as wood elves, though the two rarely get along. Orc tribes are detailed elsewhere, and most belong to one of these large tribes and their eponymous spiritual totems, though a significant minority belong to much smaller bands, some with radically different traditions. Half-orcs come into being for a number of reasons, and the degree to which they’re accepted varies from orc to orc; some see them as tainted orcs, some see them as the same as full orcs, and a rare few see them as superior.   Orcs are one of the few prolific races native to the Prime Material, and as such they have a powerful connection to the Great Mother and their ancestors. Their druids are an exception to the enmity often reserved for orcs, and have considerable clout even among the elves. Other orcs tend to be brusque at the very least, and whether they were driven to the harshest lands of the world or chose to occupy them is up for debate; regardless, they have been bred into fierce and durable warriors.
