Neverborn

These undying beings have already been slain, and though they have lost some of the power that gods and living titans wield (most notably their influence on the multiverse through being connected to a fundamental principle, now lost), the beings who are active still work towards inscrutable goals. They will designate champions from time to time (often mortals who served a great and noble purpose in life but fell from grace and became death knights), and some manifest avatars to work within the multiverse. These avatars are similar in power to those of the gods, with one exception; defeating them permanently destroys that particular manifestation, and any subsequent manifestations will be different in power and personality. The goals of these beings may seem straightforward, but mortals often have a hard time deciphering the aims of these lost beings.   The First and Forsaken Lion The First and Forsaken Lion was the first to be slain, because only then would Mind separate from the rest of the multiverse, and omniscience would cease to be an option. Rumored to have been the king or queen of the primordials or at least their mightiest general (before Malfeas), The First and Forsaken Lion occupies a mighty fortress tomb in Niflheim, in which eternally imprisoned undead and fiends build powerful legions who are then sent out on missions they rarely understand; it is worth noting that no other power in the multiverse has ever landed a military force in Niflheim, and even the small bands that wind up there face stiff opposition if they intend to take on the First. The current avatar is the Owl Armored in Nails, a mysterious and puissant general.   The Mask of Winters The Mask of Winters was the first to be slain, because only then would Forces be quantifiable and discrete, the better to be manipulated by others. The Mask of Winters resides in a large, frost rimed automaton in Niflheim, which resembles a massive Titan. The interior is larger than the exterior reveals, and though the automaton is ponderous, it has energy weapons at its disposal which are unlike anything seen elsewhere in the multiverse. The Mask of Winters has agents throughout the multiverse. His avatar is believed to be the automaton in which he currently resides.   The Dowager of the Irreverent Vulgate in Unrent Veils The Dowager was the first to be slain, because only then could the very Quintessence of the multiverse be apprehended and manipulated. Content to roam her hunting grounds in Niflheim through her avatar, she is always displayed as a bloodthirsty huntress astride some magnificent creature. Her hunts include all manner of beings, and seems to be her only preoccupation as far as anyone can tell.   The Bodhisattva Anointed by Dark Water Residing in the Shadowfell itself, the Bodhisattva was the first to be slain, because only then could Time be said to flow and the war could end. Nearly synonymous with his avatar, the Silver Prince, the Bodhisattva ensures that the majority of traffic in the Shadowfell is either dead or undead. Privateers in his service seize many of the vessels that try to cut through the Shadowfell, and nightmares from before the flow of time haunt the depths of the planescape.   Lover Clad in the Raiment of Tears The Lover Clad was the first to be slain, because only then did the multiverse cease to exist as a single point and omnipresence became impossible. Little is known of the Lover, aside from her name and dark tales of her quest for physical sensation; indeed, succubi and incubi are said to have their origins in her somehow. Other rumors insist that the Lady of Pain in Sigil is her avatar and that the Lover resides there, which would explain the doors; others chide this as too simple an explanation and maintain that this has never been confirmed by the Lady herself.   Princess Magnificent with Lips of Coral and Robes of Black Feathers The Princess was the first to be slain, because only then was Life made distinct and the possibility of death introduced to the multiverse. Princess Magnificent lives in Hel, and some believe that her avatar has become a goddess known as the Raven Queen. The goddess of that name has been silent on the matter, though she not only grants domains but is also available to warlocks as a patron. Princess Magnificent isn’t very active in the multiverse, yet Hel is the most difficult plane from which to wrest souls.   Eye and Seven Despairs Eye was the first to be slain, because only then was Matter made to be a vessel for life and forces, yet distinct from either. Eye inhabits Niflheim, though its seven lieutenants (all unique yugoloths) act in the mortal world often, under the guise of the Seven Deadly Sins. Though these fiends are a deathly reflection of their angelic and devil counterparts, they count as undead as well, unable to shake the influence of their master. Eye and Seven Despairs seems content to wait, though for what, none can say.   Bishop of the Chalcedony Thurible The Bishop was the first to be slain, because only then would Entropy turn the great wheel of the cosmos, leading all things to their eventual end. When he fell, Bishop pierced the newly created Shadowfell itself, creating a gaping hole that filled with his hatred and madness. This became the Abyss, and the vast layers are layers between the Bishop and the painful reality of his position in death. Demons are hateful and insane as a result, and the Bishop needs no avatars or agents, for his malice manifests already.   Walker in Darkness Walker in Darkness was the first to be slain, because only then was Spirit divided from the material universe and magic made possible. Walker alone travels the multiverse through his avatars, though none ever seem to be sure of what they seek, and they’re often hostile to those whom they meet.   The last four Unnamed and unworshipped, these four beings reside in great impregnable tombs deep within the Shadowfell. Though they send no agents into the multiverse and seem to have no effect on the cosmos, their tombs remain unspoilt, as even gods who approach are driven insane.
