Eladrin

According to Eladrin legend, when the elves first awoke under the stars placed by the gods, the Feywild and the Prime Material existed as one plane. Gradually the two shifted away, and two elven sisters sensed the imminent schism; one chose to remain and lead her people in the Prime Material, and one chose to remain and lead her people in the Feywild. The two parted ways before the great Elven Exodus but remained close, and to this day the eladrin occupy the Feywild almost exclusively, though they maintain cordial relations with all elves.   Appearance Eladrin match the average height for humans, though their build is more slight. Cosmetically they vary greatly based on the season to which they’re attuned; summer eladrin have skin tones ranging from bronze to mahogany, with bright green hair and eyes (the former appearing to be oak leaves). Autumn eladrin sport skin or orange or bright yellow, with hair and eyes to match autumn foliage. Winter eladrin have skin of white or icy blue, with hair the color and appearance of holly (and red eyes). Spring eladrin sport the full range of human skin tones, and their hair looks like budding branches.   Clothing Eladrin are nothing if not eccentric, and their clothing matches this. Some adopt fashions from cultures long extinct while others create their own entirely; given the nature of the Feywild, anything is possible, and the eladrin certainly don’t lack for materials or magic.   Art Gardening and arrangements of living flora hold a special place in eladrin society. Many view delicate pruning and arranging as a cooperative arrangement with the plant, and the results are magnificent. Eladrin are also prolific painters, weaving almost illusory effects with no magic beyond what natural occurs within them.   Religion Long estranged from the gods, eladrin on the whole lean heavily towards druidic traditions, and boast almost no clerics. Those who do emerge are seen as eccentrics by eladrin society, though being eccentric is hardly a detriment among a race which prizes it so. Clerics don’t often gain a large following or a great deal of clout, however.   Cuisine Eladrin food is unique, in that it’s inspired largely by what’s available in the Feywild. Some foods lose their properties and even edibility outside this realm, while others take on exquisite qualities in the Prime Material. Eladrin food in the city of Azure looks very different from the roasted birds and fruits of the Feywild, but in both cases the experience is delightful. Eladrin wine is particularly prized, both for its flavor and for its novel blue color.   Courts Eladrin divide themselves along political lines which typically represent different seasons. Though many eladrin may change their affect, most feel inclined toward one court or another, regardless of their current manifestation. The Summer Court turns out fighters, paladins, and barbarians as it focuses on martial prowess, while the Autumn Court typically trains bards and sorcerers. The Winter Court favors monks and rogues, while the Spring Court collects most of the eladrin druids and rangers.
