Dragonborn

Dragonborn are a unique race, born from unfertilized dragon eggs. They cannot breed with each other (or anyone else for that matter), which gives them considerably different cultural outlooks; the ‘family unit’ is a strange concept for dragonborn, who often either live with or serve their mothers, or else are free to form tribes that must find a means of perpetuating themselves (theft of unfertilized eggs is common, as is trading plunder to dragons for their unfertilized eggs). Dragonborn cities and empires are inextricably bound up with dragons themselves, and the industry and multitude of the former compliments the raw power of the latter. Though a subjugated role is common, there are still ample examples of dragons who love or respect their children.   Dragonborn in the west are somewhat rare, as their empires have clashed with the elves and humans before, but they can still be found as traders or adventurers. Most tend to be a little haughty, even if cleverer ones disguise it well; after all, who else can claim kinship to living gods as expressed by the draconic form? Even the city dwellers often have little patience for the intricacies of law and philosophy which elves and some humans admire so much, preferring simpler and rustic values. The exception to this is magical learning, and those dragonborn who are interested in magic but manifest no talent as a sorcerer (common) will become bards or wizards without a second thought. Warlocks are rarer among dragonborn than other races (among whom they’re rare enough as is), because the dragonborn have such a strong connection to their draconic parents that most feel they need no other. The prominence of sorcerers among dragonborn (overwhelmingly draconic, for obvious reasons) more than makes up for this; there are more sorcerers among the dragonborn than all other arcane casters combined.   Other classes vary considerably in their representation. Born of dragons, incredibly powerful beings in their own right, dragonborn are infrequently drawn to being clerics. Most of their divine casters are druids, better suited to a rustic people. Fighters of all stripes and paladins (particularly vengeance paladins) are common, and the more barbarous tribes have barbarians as well. Rangers are a little underrepresented, and few dragonborn become monks. (Those who do are often called to the elemental path, to complement the practitioner’s breath weapon.) Rogues are ubiquitous as always.
