Terrania

Terrania is the central territory on the Eastern Landmass in Pater. A modest and rural area, populated by a great variety of different races. The main settlement is a large city known as Parkin, in the far North Western province.   Terrania is responsible for the vast majority of the food production for the entire continent, and exports a large quantity of grain, dried fruits and smoked and preserved meats.   Terrania is ruled by a council, which is headed by an elected mayor. The council is elected by the surrounding population of elders, each one a local leader elected from the elders of the various districts. Each town also has an elected Burghermeister, which looks after the local dealings of the town. These Burghermeisters all report to the Aelderman of Parkin, who takes this information to the Mayor.   The surrounding areas of Parkin are made up of a few different areas. Most of the land around the city are farming territories, comprising of massive collectivised farms, extending out several hundred miles around the city, all snaking around trade and logistic roads towards Parkin itself. Outside of the farming areas to the south are the mountains, where the goliath tribes lie. Towards the north the route hardens, and the farmland becomes a mix between harsh limestone beds, or damp bogland. Towards the south is the more vibrant and untamed forest regions of South Terrania, which eventually gives way to more dry and arid areas bordering the Wilds. The Far South East of the region is comprised of the same deep dark forests, which border the mountains of the Goliath clans. The forests are said to contain a plethora of Fey creatures, with the areas flowing with ancient wild arcane energy. It is said that the gates to the Feywild rest somewhere in these dark forests.   Society   Terrania is a very simple agrarian society. The majority of the land is owned in some way by the nobility, who then employs the local serfs and peasants to work the land. The majority of the profit stays within the nobility, with many of the peasants left to fend for themselves. There is a majorly traditional aspect to Terrania, with many older customs being very prominent and practiced. Terrania is one of the more diverse populations, second only to the Wilds. Over 60% of the population is human, with the remainder being a mix between Halfling, Gnome, Half Elves, and in smaller quantities still, Half Orcs, Goliath, and a few other races.   Ecomony   Terrania is one of the more traditional medieval economies. Boasting the largest population overall, the territory bases most of its economy around general trade, tarriffs, and most of all; farming and agriculture. The exception being Parkin, which hosts a much more urban development, focussing more on taxation, rents and more general services. Though not quite as wealthy as the Western Continents, it is the wealthiest of the Eastern Provinces.   Military Power   Most of the military power within Terrania comes from the levies. Each Noble would have a set of retainers and each one of them would have a collection of men at their disposal. There is a standing force controlled by the council of Parkin, however this mainly functions as a centrepiece of the military, comprising of veterans of previous wars, and career soldiers as well.
