Moradin

Moradin is the newest - and most controversial - deity worshipped in Alsine. First appearing during the tumultuous Black Night that ended the third age, his followers have grown significant in the centuries since. His church is led by Golgoth Mordson, a construct created by Moradin to continue leading his people after he returned to the celestial realm from which he came.   His followers claim that he is the true creator of the Duergar - or Dwarves, as followers of Moradin call themselves - and that their kind has gone astray. These claims are treated as dangerous heresy by the Duergar clans, who persecute the self-styled "Children of Moradin" with extreme prejudice.

Holy Books & Codes

Upon his return to Mount Celestia, Moradin left not written text. Instead, he forged a bronze construct whom he dubbed "Golgath" instilled with his knowledge and a spark of his divinity. Golgath (whose disciples later added "Mordson" as a surname) has led Moradin's followers for nearly eight centuries, dispensing his creators teachings and wisdom.

Tenets of Faith

The Children of Moradin believe that the life of a dwarf should be defined by their devotion to their family, to honor, and to their craft.   Each Child of Moradin is expected to be true to one spouse for life, to care for their children until they have their own family. Children are expected to care for their elders in their old age. Dwarves with no family - or none that belong to the faith - are frequently adopted by a clan.   All members of the faith are expected to learn and master a useful craft. Much of a member's standing in the community hinges upon their skill.   Puzzlingly, the church's teaching insists that Moradin originates on a "celestial" plane, and that dozens of such planes supposedly exist, containing many deities largely unknown on Alsine. Scholars of the arcane arts have been unable to confirm the existence of any such planes - a fact that has led many Duergar to decry the Mordsonian faith as a hoax.

Holidays

The Children of Moradin observe a holy week from the 25th of Ravna - the day Moradin first appeared in Alsine - to the 4th of Valenor - a day of mourning in remembrance of the day he returned to his home on Mount Celestia.
