Alpha Rising

Alpha Rising is a scifi world set in our own galaxy.   The local systems that radiate out from what was once known as the solar system have never experienced anything beyond unrest and a constant state of flux. Administered from the Core, on paper at least, the populated systems are spread out in concentric circles that roughly correspond to the waves of emigration over time and a decreasing population curve and economic position the further you travel from the Core planets.   Each circle gained a colloquial name that became a codified descriptor over time, beginning with the Core and expanding to include the Fringe, the Outer and the Frontier.   The acknowledged power in the region is the Core Coalition, defenders of the Core worlds and enforcers of their laws across the other areas. As their ambitions and their fears grow alongside the expansion of the other areas, so too does their benevolence decrease. There have always been tensions between the haves of the Core, with their tight grip on advanced technologies, and the have-nots everywhere else, who strive for equal treatment - or increasingly for the right simply to survive.   While the Fringe, with it's close proximity to the Core, has generally been a stable and prosperous region, the Outer and the Fringe are considered areas of flux and agitation where laws are made and discarded at the will of the individual worlds and rebellion grows steadily from the fertile grounds of distrust and discontent.   Yet, behind it all is something else. While technology and science outpace laws and regulations, humanity and post-humanity heave and strain to find a way forward, and genetically engineered beings try to find their place in the face of constant xenophobia - something is pushing.
