Life is defined by conflict. Where there are limited resources and differing ideologies, there is conflict. Conflict forges strength, conflict forces weakness, conflict destroys, and conflict creates. Almanis, the name most mortals have given to the Material Plane, has seen innumerable empire-spanning conflicts since its inception. Today power resides regionally, with no singular political entity dominating a majority of the world. The largest continent of Almanis is Adraxia, defined by an enormous mountain range that nearly splits the continent in two (The Udrith Range), the continent's climate divides itself into a handful of different ecosystems. The badlands of the northwest, the deserts of the far west, the woodlands of the northeast, the jungles of the southeast, and the swamps that dominate the middle of the continent. To the east of Adraxia lies the Isles of Farnae, the home of the high-elven kingdom of which the Isles get their names. To the north of Adraxia is the frozen continent known as The Frostlands, named for both its climate and the giants that inhabit it. When one travels too far west of Adraxia, one doesn't return. Nothing known but vast open seas west of Adraxia. The South freezes over before you see land if one travels that way, although some insane adventurers claim that there are mountains in the frozen wastelands.
