Troubled Sleep

Metaphysical / Paranormal event

718
49/1

Late one night near winter's end, the youngest brother, Tristyval, suffered from a terrible nightmare where he saw the deaths of his brothers on corpse strewn battlefield. In the palm of his own bloody hand, he saw a glowing ring. And when he asked the ring who slew his brothers, the ring reflected his own face. Jolted awake, Tristyval felt that this was a terrible omen. And for months, feared for the future. However, his brothers reassurance helped him to shrug off such notions in time.

On the eve of the 49th of Last Frost of the year 718 in the Second Era, Tristyval, the youngest of the three brothers had a seemingly prophetic dream. He dreamed of a war torn battlefield littered with the bodies of both friend and foe. Stretching skyward from a pile of corpses was a single forearm, the hand of which was adorned by a ring of pure white light. Tristyval approached in a trance, and quickly stole the ring from the decrepit hand. In an instant, Tristyval was snapped into a new reality, one where he was fighting for his very life against soldiers from an unknown force. As he slashed his way through each opponent, he found himself fleeing up the steps of a lavish cliffside palace, enemies pursuing him, the entire way.   Inside the palace, Tristyval finally turned to face his pursuers, cutting them down with ease. As he managed to gather himself, Tristyval unmasked them. Much to his horror, they were revealed to be his own brothers, Astav and Richelieu. He pleaded skyward for an answer, begging to know what compelled his brothers to attack him so. At the height of his agony, a glow had caught his eye, beckoning Tristyval to look. When he did so, the ring's glow faded, and only his own bloodstained reflection could be seen. In a fit of rage, Tristyval ran towards the end of the throne room, planning to throw himself from the cliff-perched balcony. However, before he could reach his destination, a great stone cracking could be heard and the ground shook as if by some great earthquake. Tristyval was thrown off balance and fell to the ground. He turned on to his back, only to see the palace ceiling collapsing down upon him.   When he awoke, he met with his brothers in secret and begged them to reconsider their quest. But Astav and Richelieu insisted that the dreams were a result of a combination of stress and nerves. The dreams haunted Tristyval for some time, but with the brother's reassurance, these thoughts of failure eventually left him.
