Aarakocra

Living in fairly in isolated Flocks, Aarakocra are bird-like humanoids who are often times pressured by their parents to go out and see the world, though they seldom survive long. Flocks and the individuals within them tend to be fairly welcoming to outsiders, though they don't usually seek out interracial companionship, and outsiders must be careful not to outstay their welcome.

Anatomy

Aarakocra sport a pair of wings instead of arms, although they seemingly have no trouble grabbing and operating devices or objects as if they had standard arms. They're bipedal and covered in feathers which range in color, and cover about every type of color in the known spectrum, although they tend to be fairly muted. The color does change to be more vibrant however as mating season approaches and they grow a temporary set of "mating feathers", which get preened away shortly after the season ends. They also sport a beak where a standard Human's mouth would be, although they speak Common fairly fluently despite their unorthodox mouth-shape.

Ecology and Habitats

Aarakocra tend to roost in mountainous or heavily forested regions, anywhere that allows them to freely fly around without being disturbed by too many other people.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Aarakocra prey almost exclusively on local wildlife, and eat mostly meat, though that doesn't discount the amount of vegetation they consume. Vegetation is harder to digest, however, and they frequently eat pebbles and small rocks to assist in the breaking up of food in their stomachs.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Because of their propensity to live in heavily forested or mountainous areas, their greatest population density is in Devertreath and upper parts of Mistlyn, though some isolated flocks have been seen in Western Moorhaven.
