500 years ago, Queen Scarlet Lomalieu of Amn sailed west with her military to the continent of Maztica with the intention of conquest. Maztica at the time consisted of many different countries but one by one they fell to the conquerers and under Queen Scarlet Lomalieu's rule, she united them all into a single country under the Amnian flag. Rebellions calling for the liberation of Maztica have arisen from time to time over the centuries, but they've all been squashed before their cause was reached. The most recent one occurred after a group of Drow refugees were given sanctuary at the caverns of Arvandor by Maztican natives, without gaining permission from their Amnian rulers. Amn demanded the removal of these Drow refugees, but the refugees along with a small number of Mazticans formed the Drow Rebellion. The Drow Rebellion's small numbers and inability to simultaneously fight for both the Drow refugees' right to asylum and the liberation of Maztica resulted in the Rebellion taking heavy losses. Eventually both sides agreed on an armistice and to negotiate during peace talks.
