Alfheim

Alfheim is one of the nine realms within the ancient World Tree, Yggdrasil. It resides to the southwest of Asgard, to the west of Midgard, and to the north of Muspelheim. The Alven people - descendants of the ancient Light Elves - are the most populous people in Alfheim, but there have been residents in the realm for millennia. Initially, the inhabitants of Alfheim were the Light Elves. As time progressed, however, children of mixed races, particularly half-Aesir or half-Vanir, began to outnumber the Elves. This resulted in Alfheim’s inhabitants’ name being changed to ‘Alven’. The name still represented the peoples’ heritage, but highlighted the change.   Some foreigners do reside in the realm of Alfheim, particularly in the capital city of Forens. Within the Tormod Mountain Ranges, on the border of Asgard and Alfheim, resides a population of dwarves who have built their community within the mountains themselves. The Alven peoples’ capital city of Forens lies within a large clearing, with many smaller Alven villages existing amidst the forests and along the many riverbanks of Alfheim.   Throughout Alfheim, the Alven people greatly respect nature and vow to live in clean ways so as not to harm it. The only “destruction” of nature caused is when trees are cut down to clear room for villages or farming, but this wood will be recycled and reused as building materials for said villages.   This realm boasts many rivers, lakes, and forests, as well as grasslands where people and animals reside in each. Deer, foxes, and wolves are common sights throughout the plains and forests of the realm, as well as smaller mammals like mice, squirrels, and gophers. Countless songbirds fill the sky and they are joined by crows and ravens. salmon, bass, and snapper species of fish reside in the lakes, providing food for humans and animals alike.
