The Crossroads

Description:

A small number of Victorian-styled buildings that serve as a rest point for weary travelers. Being at an intersection of five roads and equipped with various services and such. It's commonly known for its homely feel but isn't world-famous by any means. Merely a small (barely able to be called a village) cluster of buildings with a few notable buildings, some more famous than the town itself. There's a center of the town in which two cages hang from a large column of wood. In these cages are usually criminals that are left to die, rotting till they are a skeleton. Right The four buildings that border the town square are the peacekeeping office, the village hotel, the Crossroads market, and the tavern These are the buildings visited by travelers the most, with the other few buildings (being a lab here, a butcher shop there, a blacksmith somewhere, a house or two, etc) being rarely visited by outsiders, and merely only visited by residents of the small town. It's a melting pot of all cultures and sentients, with even a couple Homo Saurus / Demons being there that have retired from their normal evil lives and now live in peace, though they do pull a scam every now and then, but that's the extent of their current evildoing. Any and all travelers are always welcome into the town, and the civilians are always friendly to everyone.

Sub-Areas:

The few buildings in the small in the small town that are worthy of being noted.   The Copper Glory Tavern:
The only tavern in the small town, always full of all sorts of travelers and wanderers. You find travelers with fanatical tales of the world, vagabonds looking for trouble, mercenaries looking to be hired, whatever you can imagine. The bar (equipped with a rugged bartender and stools in front) sits off to the left of the front door. Hexagonal tables and chairs sit in the center of the room, with dark booths and tables sitting in the right corners of the room. Right beside the bar, tucked in the back left corner is a stairwell that leads up to other rooms used for... questionable services.   Peacekept Offices:
The proud offices where all peacekeepers are stationed till called out. The inside has a lobby with wooden benches along the wall and a fancy desk set in the center against the back wall to create a waiting room. A receptionist is always sitting behind the desk and acts as security for the offices. Through a door on the right of the desk, are the peacekeeper offices, where peacekeepers reside in cubicle-like office spaces, each with their own desk, monitor, and so on. They don't do much except sit around and play games, due to the Crossroads not having much illegal activity. Every now and then a bounty will be placed (with posters being placed on the front outside wall of the offices) for certain individuals and some peacekeepers will be inside working on intel on the whereabouts of possible bounties, with others roaming the Crossroads in case the targeted individual wanders into town.   Sagebrush Inn:
A calm, homely inn within the Crossroads that seems to never run out of rooms. It's the tallest of the buildings, with stairwells on the outside leading up to higher levels, with all access to rooms being directly from the exterior. Inside the rooms, a single bed is against the far wall, next to a small bedside table. A window is on the same wall, with a large dresser opposite it by the door. A fan hangs in the center, lazily spinning from the draftiness. Not to mention, the walls, ceiling, and floor are all made of chipping wood.
The office takes up the entire first floor, with the front door facing toward the town square. Inside, there are two comfy couches to either side of the door. A front desk behind which a Kekamotos inn-keeper is often seen, and behind him, an array of shelfs holding keys and documents on residents that stay there. To the side of the desk, a door leads to the room the innkeeper stays in, which identical to the rest of the rooms.
At night the office is closed and all the exterior lights are illuminated, casting a warm glow on the town square. Early in the morning and late at night the inn has lots of traffic, but any other time, it's almost entirely empty of life.   Crossroads Market:
A large building that extends a ways lengthwise, upwards a few stories, and is fairly wide. Inside are many stalls, tents, and displays. Though the building is tall, there's only one story, which allows there to be more variety of vendors (such as some selling food they cook right there in the market and let the smoke rise up to the top of the building rather than choking everyone on the ground). You can buy almost anything you want, with items ranging from blackmarket illegal objects, to simple groceries, to weapons, to pets.

History:

One of the very first towns erected after Homo Sapiens emerged from the earth. It quickly grew to its full size before 4200, but never grew beyond that due to its desolate terrain and it being far stranded from any nearby water, other towns, and valuable terrain-types. It's remained neutral throughout all conflicts, with the peacekeepers punishing any who cause too much chaos within the town, regardless of who they are. This makes the town extremely safe, at least should one be able to keep themselves in the public eye (as many people have been dragged out of the towns limits secretly and murdered, sometimes resulting in bounties on their head).

Surrounding Terrain:

The town is located in a dry sagebrush desert, with only a few places having any other greenery, that being the farms. These farms produce most of the food consumed by the Crossroads, whether it be crops or livestock. These are located outside the Crossroads in a complete circle around the town, with roads cutting through the center of them directly into the town. The farms are all bordered by two rows of barbed-wire fences, preventing any trespassers from trodding on the crops and keeping livestock penned in.
