The Moar

Outside of settlement's and cities, Ranger's of the Maor keep watch and patrol small territories of land, learning the intricacies of an area they’re guarding. They’re a mercenary faction that offer their services to highest bidder. The Maor are known for their unique hierarchy, preferring to work in groups no larger than ten, to maximize profit with as little resources as possible. The Maor are known to have morally grey ethics, with some saying they are nothing more than bandits with fancier clothes and others saying they are the wardens of the wilds. Like most things the truth lays somewhere in the middle. The Maor operate mostly in Estoya but have been known to take jobs as far as Elsweyr and Talenal. They’re hired for a number of reasons including but no limited to, guarding an area, protecting caravans, monster hunting and bounty acquisition.

Work in packs

The Maor doesn’t need large numbers to be highly dangerous. They focus on training a small set of rangers to be extremely proficient in specific areas of expertise. This allows them to price their services at a premium. They base their price on the number of rangers they provide to an area. The groupings are thus:   Duo’s - Rangers that work in pairs, together they work in sync to get the work done. It often creates a bond between the two that is strengthened by the hardships of the missions. These rangers are often called on for more discrete work such as bounties, hunting, and scouting. They are extremely dangerous together.   Packs - Often work in groups of ten on large-scale jobs that need multiple rangers to accomplish. These large groups are considered the most dangerous because of their organization and skill. Folks compare them to packs of wolves on a hunt. Squads are often made up of rangers that train together during their rangers boot camps. They are also heavily equipped to deal with many different situations. These numbers are often used in raids, ambushes, assaults, elimination, and suppression.

Quiet Armor and Silent weapons

With and emphasis on skills and agility the Maor prefer to wear leather based armor that is flexible and quiet. If they need more protection they opt to add studs to their leather.   The weaponry they use is just as quick and just as nimble as they are, preferring finesse weapons such as daggers, short swards, hand axes, falchions, short bows and long bows.

The Crow

There’s only one person who commands the small groups of the Maor and does so from a unknown location in the Mackinaw Forest. Known as The Crow, Birk Beathan is a rough looking human who is hardly heard from directly and even more seldomly seen. The only contact The Crow has with clients is through a familiar named Rook. Rook is a Raven who acts as the face for Birk, Rook gives the Wolves their orders who in turn, disseminate the information to their “Packs”.

Pack structure

Wolves   A Maor Wolf is the pack leader, often a wolf is in charge of specific regions of land. They coordinate with The Crow to carry out missions and orders, to be a wolf The Crow must trusts you entirely, to obey commands and relay The Crows wishes to lower ranked members.   Foxes   Just below Wolves, Foxes act as pack leaders when the wolf is called away. They also enjoy the perks of gaining higher cuts of payment and generally have higher end equipment.   Owls   The person the pack turns to for in-mission tactics and strategy. They are trained to create schemes that make use of any terrain the pack finds themselves in. Looked at for guidance on plans and escape routes when things get messy.   Rabbits   The lowest rank but no less skilled, Rabbits are newly trained Maor rangers. They follow the wolf and act on their command, they also get the lowest pay, though are paid well high comparatively to other work of this kind.
