Alethia

Alethia is a world without gods.   There are entities regarded as Gods, entities worshiped as them, but the line dividing an entity and a deity is thin.   In the absence of deities, there is merely a system. A system that governs all of reality.   And like all systems, it can be exploited.

  Alethia is a setting combining many different ideas I have had over the years into one unified setting. A world in which old powers have been overturned and laid to ruins, where continents are literally carved in half by civil wars, and where increasing industrialization of both the mundane and magical varieties propels the world forwards, and all of this is at the hands of men.   This world was partially born out of my desire to create what it is I wish to see more of in fantasy settings with my own two hands, and to explore those ideas. Alethia as a setting does not lend itself to tales of good and evil, to grand conflicts encompassing the scale of the whole universe. Sure, demons and fairies and angels and what have you exist, but they are content to squabble among themselves in the background. The conflicts of Alethia are political, social, and economic conflicts, and its heroes are not paragons of any sort of ideals, but merely individuals who make decisions that bring them into prominence.   But of course, even if Alethia isn't a world of high fantasy, it is a world of high magic. Magic in Alethia is structured and systemic, leaning very far towards the hard end of the scale even if it might not initially seem that way upon a glance. Everything is meant to fit together, everything has a reason or set of reasons behind it. There is no real randomness in magic, it's predictable, and simply a part of the universe as any sort of natural laws are.   I am probably going to change this description later, but I wanted to get my design principles in order.
