Alesund

The Alesund is a world of magic and wonders, from the towering mountains to the vast ocean but beneath all of the wonders lie the undercurrent of dark times. Relations between the differing races has become strained and the new discoveries have the potential to sow turmoil and chaos into the land.   Part of the problem is the relations between the five races that inhabit the continent.   The elves are by far the oldest; they were said to have once lived in peace when the world was young. But, that was so long ago that no one remembers those days of idyllic joy. They now forced an dwindling population and loss of their homeland to the humans.   The dwarves in their halls in the mountains. They were one a proud race of crafters and artisan but they are now more obsessed with politics and gaining wealth. No longer interested in pursuing the nobles crafts of old.   The Vṛṣabha are a nomadic people who wander the grasslands between the great desert and the great green wood on the other. They are content to live in peace with the land and out of the way of the other peoples. They are a very spiritual people but when they are provoked they are also deadly warriors.   The Ssām̐pa are a more mysterious race that recently appeared at the edges of desert territory and have been locked in a constant struggle with the Vṛṣabha and elves. Not much is know about them or where they come from.   A little over 700 years ago humans landed on the shores of Alesund. At first they lived at peace with their neighbors just happy that they had survived the destruction of their homeland. However, over that time they started to greatly expand their empire encroaching on the lands of the other races.   This was greatly accelerated about 25 years ago when the humans uncovered the lost remains of an ancient city. Buried deep with the heart of the city was magical items unlike any the world have ever seen. This has lead to great strides for all civilizations, but it has also caused a great campaign to find more; which have lead to tensions amongst all peoples   At the same time a old religious order who believes that the old Gods helped to guide the humans to these shores are the ones who built these cities have gained strength. They are disrupting the centers of power; and their fanatical followers have protesting the use of these weapons.   Amid all of these chaos there is center of peace and hope for a brighter tomorrow. An old order of magicians help keep the peace from their stronghold in the Southern part of the continent.
