Before you say anything, this is a pretty intense workplace and all of us work more than the usual 8 hour workday, so when anyone is hired for any position we take a second to jot down a copy of their personal sigil, just in case we need to call them in after-hours. Personal sigils are a fairly new type of soul-seared rune that is common throughout the nation of Imperium. Personal sigils are etched onto the body with soul-ink and superficially resemble tattoos. Each design is unique, even two designs that are superficially identical, thanks to the unique chemistry of every individual soul.
The primary purpose of a personal sigil is that they allow someone to be messaged or "called" over a planet-spanning distance instantly. Characters can note down the design of someone's personal sigil in a process that takes five minutes and add them to a personal, mental database that they can access at any time. After this process is completed they can send them a message that the recipient can either hear in their mind or read in their minds, similar to the "Sending" spell but without the 25-word limitation.

Manufacturing process

The first and only unique step to getting a personal sigil is that someone spends a minute being forcibly injected with soul ink. This minute-long process is moderately painful but is required as the body needs a minute to adjust to a forceful and sudden injection of soul-ink and begin to alter it into a state in which it can be shaped into something useful. Once this minute is over the rest of the process is exactly that of getting a mundane tattoo.

Significance

Someone having a personal sigil is likely a sign that either they or their families recognize the importance of arcanotech and the potency inherent in soul-searing, a potent arcane process that alters the chemistry of the soul in exchange for the permanent granting of potent arcane boosts and abilities.

These sigils are known to originate in the kingdom of Imperium but have quickly spread throughout the continent of Brava and beyond. In Imperium these sigils are extremely common, and in Brava more generally they are still fairly common. Beyond that it depends on the proximity of a place to Brava, and also any individual nation's relationship with Imperium, but it is likely that at least one hundred people with personal sigils can be found in every continent.

Raw materials & Components

The primary component in the process which grants someone a personal sigil is soul-ink, a chemical concoction which when injected into someone and pumped through them alters the soul. Soul-ink is a known building block of the outer planes and has a history in Aleroxas that is both miraculous and horrifying depending on who is using the concoction and to what ends.
